The Science of Reopening Wolf Ridge Safely

Thursday, May 20, 7:00-8:00 pm

Masks? No masks? The recommendations from scientists continue to evolve. How does Wolf Ridge translate ever-changing conditions into COVID-safe practices for registered families, guests, and students?

Join epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Miller, longtime teacher Michelle Martin, and our own Pete Smerud to hear about Wolf Ridge’s targeted, thoughtful, science-backed strategy to reopen for programs starting this summer. Learn from the speakers and our host, the Shea family why they feel it’s so important to get youth and families back to outdoor learning experiences at Wolf Ridge.

Dr. Benjamin Miller, Ph.D., MPH, Senior Director of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs, The Acheson Group (TAG)
Dr. Miller has twenty years of experience in public health, epidemiology, and infectious disease outbreak investigations. He earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Health with a background in infectious diseases and his Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. Since COVID arrived in the states he has helped organizations, including Wolf Ridge, develop COVID-related response plans, testing strategies, how to manage cases of illness, and ways to stay informed on the ever-changing science and recommendations.

Michelle Martin, Elementary Teacher at Prairie Creek Community School
With degrees from Harvard and Columbia University, Michelle Martin has been teaching 4th and 5th grades at Prairie Creek since 2004 and has served as lead teacher for many trips to Wolf Ridge. She grew up active in Girl Scouts and continues to emphasize outdoor education in her classroom—leading the charge for a portable desk design. Hear how she crafted an opportunity for this year’s 5th graders to get to Wolf Ridge over the summer.

Hosted by the Shea family.
