Do you look for interesting rocks on every beach or gravel road and want to discover their story? Are you an agate or Thomsonite seeker? Do you wonder about all those rock faces you see as you drive heading north on Highway 61?
Galls, burls, and brooms! Oh my! This workshop will focus on exploring the Lilliputian world of galls, burls, and brooms as well as the plants they grow on.
This workshop is a hands-on introduction to fall raptor banding migrating down the Lake Superior corridor. The emphasis will be on Northern Saw-whet owls.
Have you ever wondered why some wood turns blue when it rots? Or where all the dead leaves go after each autumn? Or what the moldy cheese in the back corner of your fridge drawer has to do with climate change?
In this workshop we will zoom in and focus on practicing plant identification skills. We will also zoom out and discuss the relationship between these plants and their environment. We will encounter many fascinating plants, some of them carnivorous, some of them mere inches tall at maturity, some with strikingly beautiful flowers, some of them are some of the rarest plants in the state!
