Grandparent & Grandchild Grand Adventure

Create memories that will last a lifetime!

Grandparents want to spend time with their grandchildren – sharing family traditions, building relationship bonds, and passing on the accumulated wisdom of a lifetime to the youngest generation. Grandchildren want to spend time with their grandparents – having fun, doing cool activities, and discovering things about their grandparents they never knew before. Where can you participate in all of these terrific things?  At Wolf Ridge exploring and learning about Minnesota’s beautiful Northwoods.

We hope to offer this camp again in 2022.

Grandparent-Grandchild Grand Adventure Activities

Pass on your love of the natural world

What’s more rewarding than passing on your love of lifelong learning and being outdoors? Teaching a younger adventurer to love it too! Our Grand Summer Adventure is an inter-generational program where grandparents and their grandchildren bond with the natural world and each other. Together, hone your outdoor skills while learning about the unique history and ecology of Minnesota’s beautiful Northwoods.

A mix of time together and with peers

Every day, share special outdoor adventures with your grandchild. They’ll experience your enthusiasm and learn skills that will let them keep exploring as they grow and change. Each week, we also offer a couple of sessions for either kids or grandparents only. Crafts, naturalist programs, and campfires round out the evenings.

Build lasting memories through hands-on activities

Explore together for animal signs. Become a French voyageur or practice traditional Ojibwe skills. Learn the ecology of forests and streams. Hike to spectacular overlooks. Paddle a canoe under stunning cliffs. Make fire with flint and steel. Sing around the campfire. Witness your grandkids’ growing independence on the climbing wall or Adventure Ropes course.

A place to kick back and relax

Having a place to socialize with family and friends during downtime is another important part of the Wolf Ridge experience. You’ll find outdoor and indoor gathering spaces at the Margaret A. Cargill (MAC) Lodge, including the nearby campfire ring, open space for outdoor play, and patio deck. Indoors, there are two wood stoves and comfortable seating for reading and visiting. Perhaps you’ll want to take in the lodge balcony’s stunning views of the campus’s hills and cliff-lined lakes, enjoy the evening sunset from the nearby Sawmill Creek Overlook deck, or meet another family for board games in the indoor commons.

You and your family will share a suite in MAC Lodge. Your suite includes two bedrooms, a shared space with two sinks, and separate toilet and shower rooms. Those who want more privacy can close the sliding door to their individual bedroom. Each bedroom contains two bunk beds and can sleep one to four people. You will not be sharing with another family – just you.

MAC Lodge is one of only about 45 in the world built to meet Living Building Challenge standards. Residents will experience what it’s like to live comfortably at net zero for both water end energy. Learn more about how the MAC Lodge has already changed the landscape for sustainable building in the northern US!

Dining Service and Meals

Fuel for your imagination

We take great pride in creating delicious daily meals.  Whether coming in from a day spent outside or fueling up for the next adventure, everyone will find choices to satisfy their appetites in the Lake Superior Dining Room.

Food Service Director Chris O’Brien and his staff go above and beyond to produce a choice-driven, healthy, hearty meal while creating a sense of community here at Wolf Ridge. Most of our produce is from the Wolf Ridge Organic Farm while meats and other products are sourced as locally as possible.  From-scratch vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes are available at each and every meal. Fresh fruit, veggies, and homemade bread are available all day, in addition to coffee and tea.

Our kitchen staff regularly works with participants to meet allergy and dietary concerns. Daily vegan dishes are inherently free of any animal product, including dairy, and are most often gluten-free as well. Individuals with common food allergies and sensitivities, including dairy or peanuts, will find good, healthy food at each meal that addresses their needs. Our Dining Hall is nut-free. Please note dietary requests, concerns, and preferences when completing camp registration materials.

Financial Assistance

Family camp is an adventure we hope everyone will experience.  If your family is in need of financial support, the Wolf Ridge Family Camp Scholarship could provide 10 – 50% of the cost of the program. The deadline for submission is May 1, 2020.
