For experienced kayakers entering grades 10 – 12
Wolf Ridge’s pinnacle sea kayaking experience and most remote trip! Spend 10 days sea kayaking among the more remote islands of Lake Superior’s Apostle Islands, and experience the islands in a way that very few people get to.
This two-week expedition is one of Wolf Ridge’s pinnacle wilderness trip experiences and a once in a lifetime journey for experienced wilderness trippers. The expedition travels among the outer and more remote islands of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, exploring some of the archipelago’s most fascinating stories, from iconic lighthouses and fantastic sea caves to remote beaches and forests.
Campers will arrive on Sunday and spend the next day on a nearby inland lake practicing the essential skills of kayak fitting, paddling strokes, and rescues. Tuesday they will begin their journey out to the Bayfield Peninsula and the Apostle Islands, visiting remoter islands such as Outer, Cat, Ironwood, Rocky, and Devils islands (weather permitting, of course!). Along the way, they will hone wilderness skills and the classic art of sea kayaking.
Wolf Ridge welcomes anyone of age to register for this trip, but campers should know that this is one of Wolf Ridge’s most demanding trips, with 10 days of wilderness camping, potentially long days of paddling, and patience and flexibility while waiting for the weather to clear. Come prepared to work hard and play hard! What to expect on a kayak trip.
It’s easy to make new lifelong friends when you share adventures in the wilderness. Many campers return for future trips with us!
