Fabulous Fall Geek Out: Lichens
September 30 @ 3:00 pm - October 2 @ 3:00 pm
$390
Spend a glorious fall weekend on the North Shore of Minnesota gaining hands-on experience and learning from experts in their field.
Workshops take place on the Wolf Ridge campus and surrounding areas, with lodging and meals provided. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or just a curious learner, the experience is designed for lifelong learners who have a passion for the natural world. Participants select a single workshop for the weekend but will have an opportunity to connect with other workshop groups during meals and evening programming.
Workshop: Lichens
Often overlooked and clearly underappreciated, our lichens are wonderfully diverse and surprisingly beautiful. We will explore habitats from the shore of Lake Superior to inland forests and rocky outcrops. Practice with tools and techniques that will catapult you from nerdy novice to local respected authority (you’ll amaze friends and family). Bring a camera, notebook, and curiosity. Casual strolls through the park will never be the same again. Joe remarks, “I love lichens and so will you!!”
Instructor: Joe Walewski
Author of Lichens of the North Woods and Ferns of the North Woods, Joe serves as Teaching & Learning Coordinator and Naturalist at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center. In an effort to reduce his contribution of global warming gasses, Joe commutes to work by foot, bike, or ski at least fifty percent of the time.
