family camp activities

Imagine this. You and your family are exploring Wolf Lake in a canoe by morning, investigating the geology of Marshall Mountain in the afternoon before leisurely heading back to the cozy M.A.C Lodge for a little R & R in the evening, or perhaps a bit of rock-climbing on our indoor wall. And that’s just one possible day. Just think of what the rest of your week could be like.

Optional activities include:

  • Adventure ropes
  • Rock climbing
  • Orienteering
  • Ojibwe heritage
  • Voyageur life
  • Kayaking
  • Astronomy
  • Block printing
  • Canoeing
  • Games
  • Family picnic at Lake Superior
  • Campfire
  • Family folk dance
  • And much more!

A mix of family and age-based activities

  • Each morning, children and adults participate in age-appropriate activities
  • Preschool-aged children spend mornings with a naturalist who has both experience and a great love of working with young children
  • Older children spend time with a Wolf Ridge naturalist exploring and learning about the natural world
  • Adults have the option to participate in one of the many adventure or natural history classes taught each morning or they may choose to use that time to relax and read or take advantage of the many hiking trails and water recreation opportunities Wolf Ridge offers
  • Afternoons are spent participating in one of the many Wolf Ridge activity options with family members

Housing and Meals

A place to kick back and relax

Margaret A. Cargill Lodge

Having a place to socialize with family and friends during downtime is another important part of the Wolf Ridge experience. You’ll find outdoor and indoor gathering spaces at the M.A.C. Lodge, including the nearby campfire ring, open space for outdoor play, and patio deck. Indoors, there are two wood stoves and comfortable seating for reading and visiting. Perhaps you’ll want to take in the lodge balcony’s stunning views of the campus’s hills and cliff-lined lakes, enjoy the evening sunset from the nearby Sawmill Creek Overlook deck, or meet another family for board games in the indoor commons.

Each family will be lodged in a MAC Lodge suite. Each suite includes two bedrooms, a shared space with two sinks, and separate toilet and shower rooms. Those who want more privacy can close the sliding door to their individual bedroom. Each bedroom contains two bunk beds and can sleep one to four people. Suites house a maximum of 8 family members.

Experience “Living Building Challenge” Design

MAC Lodge is one of only about 45 in the world built to meet Living Building Challenge standards. Residents will experience what it’s like to live comfortably at net zero for both water end energy. Fuel for your imagination

We take great pride in creating delicious daily meals.  Whether coming in from a day spent outside or fueling up for the next adventure, everyone will find choices to satisfy their appetites in the Lake Superior Dining Room.

Our Food

Food Service Director Chris O’Brien and his staff go above and beyond to produce a choice driven, healthy, hearty meal while creating a sense of community here at Wolf Ridge. Most of our produce is from the Wolf Ridge Organic Farm while meats and other products are sourced as locally as possible.  From-scratch vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes are available at each and every meal. Fresh fruit, veggies, and homemade breads are available all day, in addition to coffee and tea.

“It’s about quality. It’s about passion. It’s about good food done well.” – Chris O’Brien

Special Diets

Our kitchen staff regularly works with participants to meet allergy and dietary concerns. Daily vegan dishes are inherently free of any animal product, including dairy, and are most often gluten free as well. Individuals with common food allergy and sensitivities, including to dairy or peanuts, will find good, healthy food at each meal that addresses their needs. Our Dining Hall is nut free. 2020 Youth Camps and Trips have been canceled

Due to health and safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, Wolf Ridge will not be having any summer camps or wilderness trips in summer 2020. Our priority during this time is the safety and well being of our participants, staff, and the broader community. We’ve canceled the summer camp and trip programs and offered full refunds to people already registered. Stay tuned for summer camp and trip options in the future!
