The Wolf Ridge Animal Senses class can be connected to a variety of topics including adaptations and human and animal biology. Visit this page periodically as we will add new activities and links suggested by Wolf Ridge visiting school teachers, and eventually our own interactive on-line activities.

Pre-Visit Activities

Create posters to illustrate the anatomy and function of each of the human senses.

Use the Animal Senses Trivia Cards to write a story about a day in the life of a particular animal. Graduation Standards: 6-8th Writing and Speaking M.1: Speaking, Proc. 1: Write a narrative.

Write a report on the scientific research on sensory awareness in human or other animals.
Graduation Standards: HS Inquiry 2.1: History of Science, Proc. 1: Gather information on a scientific breakthrough. 4-5th Inquiry I.1: Media, Observation and Investigation, Proc. 2a-d: Select a topic, gather information, report in written presentation.

Post-Visit Activities

Design and direct classmates in a game which shows how an certain animal uses a particular sense to survive.

Wolf Ridge Class Information

Class Description:

In this animal ecology class, students will learn how senses work through experiments, games and role playing. They will compare their senses to those of other animals, and learn why senses are important to survival.

Total time: 3 hours (two hours outdoors)
Audience: 6-20 students, 4th grade through adult
Activity level: easy
Travel: 1/4 mile
