Features:
|
| Summer 2008 Dates July 6 - August 2 |
Summer 2008 Fees $1,975 |
New this summer, our hands-on, skill building Summer Academic Program combines outdoor summer fun & adventure with serious learning. Study the natural history of the north shore from ecological and social perspectives, participate in various field research projects and engage in discussions with professionals. You will leave Wolf Ridge with a better understanding of the forests and waterways of northern Minnesota and of how communities can work together to solve environmental issues.
Our course of study includes field trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (4-days), and a 3-day backpacking trip on the Superior Hiking Trail. Explore the Ham Lake fire area along the Gunflint Trail, tour a logging operation, saw-mill, and local forestry offices. Help biologists conduct ecological surveys. Meet local fishermen and miners. The experiential nature of the curriculum compels participants to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained in the classroom to real life situations.
In addition to developing the skills of life-long learners and strong, able leaders, participants earn 2 high school credits in Northern Minnesota Ecology and Environmental Ethics.
